When you first set your fitness goals, you’re full of excitement to get started and crush them, right? You buy new workout gear, meal prep like a boss, and start your program. You’re working hard, so you should be seeing results, right?
Maybe at first, you do. But then life hits. You’re tired, you stay up late a few nights in a row, you end up eating fast food for dinner on the weekends. Pretty soon you’re ready to give up.
Don’t.
Give yourself permission to be human (because, well, you are, and you can’t change that). Recognize hype when you see it, and don’t fall into its trap. No matter what anyone tries to tell you or sell you, you can’t lose 2 jean sizes in a day. You won’t lost 50 pounds in one month. You’re going to binge from time to time and make poor food decisions. It’s ok!
Sometimes you’ll miss a workout. Your weight will fluctuate, often for reasons outside of your control, like bloating. You may try a new program or method of exercise and realize you hate it, or it doesn’t work.
The journey won’t always be smooth and easy. You’re only human, you’ll make mistakes. You’ll backslide on occasion. That’s why they call this a journey. It’s not magic. It’s taking small steps, every day, toward your ultimate goal.
Failure, lack of motivation, and disappointment are totally normal. The important thing is to just keep going.
