Not everyone has what it takes. To make a true lifestyle change takes constant effort, discipline, and personal responsibility. This is true whether you’re quitting your job to start a business, starting a new relationship or getting fit. The phrase “many are called, but few answer” comes to mind. It takes willpower and consistency to make real changes in your life, and it’s important to understand right now—not everyone will be there to support you.
Sometimes, the ones that are closest to us can do the most harm, by pushing us back into our comfort zone. Maybe your close friend once tried to lose 10 pounds but discovered that around pound 5, she hit a plateau. As you start your fitness journey, she may try to convince you to consider another, smaller goal. She believes that you’ll hit a plateau, like she did, and give up. Just know, you’re better than that.
They may try to tell you that you can’t lose the weight without taking this supplement or having this procedure. They may try to tell you that unless you’re willing to never eat pizza again, you’ll never see success. No matter what “they” say, know that just because they aren’t willing to make sacrifices or implement change in their lives, doesn’t mean you can’t.
Don’t let anyone tell you, you can’t just because they can’t. With a strong mind and self-discipline, anything is possible—but not if you let others sway you. Sometimes, the ones that came before us can be great motivators during hard times. Unfortunately, sometimes the ones we value most can try to convince us that our journey (and our goals) aren’t the right ones.
You deserve to keep fighting.
